The Report describes the foundations of a Scenic Roads System for British Columbia.

Photo of rural road.

Small, rural roads in BC were included in the proposed scenic roads network.

The Province of British Columbia, in the initial stages of planning for a province wide scenic highways program, hired Dodson Associates and Christopher Phillips & Associates of Vancouver to develop detailed recommendations for the scenic highways program. Dodson Associates documented historical and existing scenic highways programs in Canada, the US and Europe and worked with the project team to develop specific recommendations for BC's scenic highways program. The study was recently published and is serving as the foundation of the province's scenic highways planning efforts.

Guidelines for road construction and maintenance
were an important element of the plan.

Photo of ferry boat.

Since much of BC's road system is linked by ferry,
the Scenic Study included waterways.
